Florida Food Products Through the Decades
For more than 65 years, we’ve been a leading agribusiness specializing in fruit and vegetable ingredients for a number of industries. Here are a few places we’ve been during that journey:
1954
Founded by Alexander “Jerry” Brown, Florida Food Products first specialized in orange juice concentrate. The business grew rapidly with capabilities soon extending into citrus pellet and pulp manufacturing and orange oil production.
1960s
Expanding on our foundation in orange juice production, we pioneered the process of carbonated beverage canning.
1970s
Growth continued at a rapid pace with the opening of seven plant locations on the eastern seaboard.
1980s
As the result of back-to-back winter freezes that destroyed the regional supply of oranges, we shifted our focus to other fruits and vegetables. We became a leader in supplying aloe vera concentrates and freeze dried powders worldwide. Through extensive R&D efforts, Florida Food Products pioneered the concentrating of vegetable juice concentrates for a variety of applications and industries.
1990s
The second generation of the family, Jerry and Tom, took over the business, and it was during this time that the facility was expanded to include an updated fruit and vegetable processing plant, modern vacuum drying facilities, and a well-equipped research and development center.
2000s
The company’s portfolio of products expanded to include natural solutions for flavor and color, texture, and clean label cure solutions for meat.
Today
With Kainos Capital’s acquisition of the business in 2016, a number of significant projects were undertaken to expand production capabilities, improve efficiencies and product quality. In late 2018 MidOcean Partners became the company’s new owners and under their guidance we will accelerate our mission of driving product innovation and delivering on-trend product solutions for the food, beverage, meat, sports and pet nutrition market segments. In August 2020 FFP acquired Amelia Bay of Johns Creek, GA, a leading provider of brewed tea extracts, coffee extracts and botanicals. In mid 2021 Ardian partnered with MidOcean to become the majority owner of FFP. This move facilitated FFP’s November 2021 acquisition of Comax Flavors, headquartered in Melville, NY. These actions have not only solidified FFP’s relevance to the beverage industry, they strengthen its clean label offerings to the culinary, bakery and confections segments.
